What is Fiber Beat? ~~
Fiber Beat is not your regular knitting podcast. In fact, it covers a range of crafts using the fiber medium, such as spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing, shepherding, & crocheting. You can expect interviews with designers, authors, farmers, & businesses. WonderMike, editor-in-chief and intrepid reporter presents instructional video podcasts as well as product reviews. If you have a story, you'd like to share, give WonderMike a shout on Ravelry or leave a comment in the show notes!

Sponsoring Fiber Beat ~~
Fiber Beat is now accepting sponsorship. If you'd like to underwrite the show, please contact WonderMike who can give you rates and options.

Production Assistance ~~
Fiber Beat is a labor of journalistic love that requires considerable preparation, both before and after the actual interview. We use various audio/computer equipment to record, edit and publish each episode of the show. Your donations make this work possible. Thank you very much!!!

Fiber Beat Video Supplement #3, The Magic Loop from WonderMike on Vimeo.

Fiber Beat Video Supplement 3

There's a million crafters in Fiber City and we've all got a yarn to spin.

Welcome new listeners and viewers to our next Video Supplement to Fiber Beat, Number 4. This episode we feature the unvention of Sarah Hauschka, The Magic Loop. This knitting technique allows one to work circularly on any size project whose circumference measurement is smaller than that of the total needle length.

The bonuses are that you only use one long circular needle and you eliminate those pesky ladders that can form when using double pointed needles (DPNs).

The following items were mentioned and referenced in the Video Supplement:

  • The Magic Loop by Sarah Hauschka and Bev Galeskas.
  • Photo Credit: US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

Don't forget about the Fiber Beat CONTEST for Episode No. 4

I have 1 bag (enough for a full sweater) of Zitron Unisono. It has been generously donated by Skacel Knitting for this episode's contest. All you need to do is tell us your most ambitious project (can be any level/fiber medium). Be sure to include pictures or links to your Ravelry project page, Flickr, etc.

To enter, please leave your comment on fiberbeat.com or on the Fiber Beat Ravelry forum. The winner will be randomly selected from all the entries. DEADLINE FOR ENTERING IS JANUARY 21, 2010.

A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who downloaded and listened to the first six episodes (audio & video) of Fiber Beat. Now that you've had a chance to watch the Fiber Beat Video Supplements, let me know what you think and leave a review on iTunes!

We used snippets of the following songs in this episode. If you like the music, please support the artist (links provided for your convenience):

  • "Fiber Beat Theme variations" performed by Anthony Bonet (Exclusive to Fiber Beat, 2010)
  • "The Windmills Of Your Mind" performed by Varla Jean Merman from Enough About Me, An Unauthorized Biography (Peak Productions, 2000)

My name is WonderMike and I'll see YOU on the Fiber Beat.
